WHY ARE WE CALLED FORMOSA?

In 1542, Portuguese sailors on their way to Japan strayed into a previously unmarked island. Astonished by the beauty of the islands and the vastness of the forests, they said, "Ilha Formosa", which means "beautiful island" in Portuguese. Ever since it was called Formosa, it is now known as Taiwan
